Outdoor Power Tools – Ground Clearance

A-Plant Go With SDMO – With A £2.5m Order For Tier 3 Generators A-Plant, one of the UK’s largest plant and equipment hire companies has confirmed an order for a large fleet of power generation sets from SDMO Energy, the UK arm of the French generator manufacturing giant, SDMO Industries. With a total value of the order approaching £2.5m, the fleet comprises of nearly two hundred generators from the SDMO Rental Compact range in a power band

between 10kVA to 150kVA.The sets are powered by the latest Mitsubishi and John Deere engines, managed by either a SDMO NEXYS or TELYS controller for monitoring; oil pressure, coolant temperature, failure to start, over speed, charging alternator fault and low fuel level. Commenting on this purchase, A-Plant’s Gareth Conley said, “The fact that these sets are fully compliant with Tier 3 regulations was a significant factor in our decision

to purchase these SDMO sets, In addition, we were impressed with the overall smart appearance of the Rental Compact range, which means that they will not look out of place on any site, including outside events.” “Another feature that helped us to select these sets was the extended hours between recommended service intervals, which ultimately means lower costs and less

manpower,” added Gareth. This fleet of generators has been distributed around A-Plant’s nationwide service centres and will be available to rent from Aberdeen right through to Bodmin, in

Cornwall - ensuring that all A-Plant power generation customers are supplied with the very latest, fully compliant equipment. The SDMO Rental Compact range addresses some pressing environmental issues, such a reduced noise pollution and diesel spillage. The sets are fitted into a sound attenuated canopy with quiet sound levels and a fully bunded long-run fuel tank, helping to guard against fuel pollution. Lower air contamination is assured as all of these generators comply with Stage 3 of the European Engine Emissions Directives 97/68/EC, 2002/88/EC, 2004/26/EC and 2006/105/EC, which came into force during 2011. SDMO are currently putting into place a full training programme for A-Plant technicians and sales staff.

At Lanz Group Lanz Group, a leading provider of waste management solutions based at Colnbrook, Berkshire has taken delivery of its first Volvo compact excavator to boost productivity with its cardboard and plastics baling operations from Volvo’s utility dealer for the Midlands and central southern England – SM Plant Ltd. shovel at the company’s recycling centre on the outskirts of Colnbrook village and a stone’s throw from the M25. “We’ve run Volvo shovels for several years now with a good degree of performance and reliability so were happy with the Volvo pedigree,” explained Workshop Manager Steve French. “We needed a compact excavator complete with a rotating selector grab to take charge of the initial separation of cardboard and plastics coming into the recycling centre prior to baling so opting for the Volvo brand was our obvious choice,” he continued. “Utilising the machine in this way will boost the productivity in our baling operations and reduce the reliance on manual separation.” Joining a mixed fleet of equipment including the two existing Volvo loading

shovels, the EC27C is powered by a Volvo 1.6 litre low emission Stage III engine coupled to a load sensing hydraulic system for optimum performance and fuel saving. Simultaneous control of slew and offset movements provides faster, more precise performance due to the right joystick control lever that features an electronically proportional roller. This allows the operator to accurately adjust hydraulic flow as needed. All hydraulic functions are performed in total independence for more control and less delay when handling multiple tasks. An automatic two-speed travel system engages when operating in high speed mode, automatically shifting gear from high to low according to the travel load. Another feature for increased efficiency is the standard auto-idling system that lowers engine speed to idle if a control is not used for five seconds. The engine reverts to the pre-selected speed almost instantly when any control is moved. This system delivers lower fuel consumption, longer engine life and less environmental noise.
