Outdoor Power Tools – Ground Clearance
This Green and Pleasant Land? This “green and pleasant land” is rich pickings for those in the ground clearance and outdoor power market. In spite of Britain’s image of being a small, overcrowded island it is still also a land of the great outdoors. We have been reminded of this recently with the announcement that the opening ceremony of the Olympics on July 27th will involve transforming the stadium into “the British Countryside’ with a backdrop featuring farmyard animals and British landmarks such as Glastonbury Tor. The aim of the ceremony is to create a picture of us as a nation. There will be sheep, horses, chickens real grass and a plough, clouds to produce fake rain if need be and even a game of cricket! How true a depiction is this of our nation is debatable but with all
these things there is an element of truth within it. In spite of creeping urbanization, there is still plenty of countryside to enjoy and we are a nation who enjoys our gardens and outdoor living. Glee, the Garden Retail Show will be staged at Birmingham NEC from 17th to 19th September and is set to be as popular as ever, with over 300 garden suppliers exhibiting and thousands of products on view. Earlier in September, from 4th to 6th, IOG Saltex, the ‘one-stop shop’ for all turf and open space management will take place at Windsor Racecourse. This gives visitors a chance to see equipment working in a ‘real life’ environment and make informed decisions about new products and suppliers. Next year sees a major new event, PLANTWORX 2013 that
promises to be a huge product showcase for all construction manufacturers and suppliers. It will take place from 14th-16th May at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. See the PLANTWORX article for up to the minute information on this exciting new event in the construction show calendar.
More Cutting-Edge Clearing
Saws...They Now Have ‘A Brain’ STIHL launched its advanced ‘M-Tronic’ engine just two years ago : its self-tuning technology means it is not only simple but truly outstanding in use. Now two new clearing saws extend the STIHL M-Tronic range : the STIHL FS 490 C-EM and FS 560 C-EM are powerful professional workhorses, available from Approved Dealers now. Clearing saws are among the most well-used power tools in a landscapers’
armoury – clearing roadsides and wild shrubbery they can tame tough grass and brambles, even trim cut sapling trees. STIHL clearing saws are recognised among the best in their class; they are practical, robust and a real pleasure to use. Making the two new STIHL clearing saws even easier to use, the fully
electronic M-Tronic engine management system adjusts ignition timing and fuel/air mix flow in all operating modes. This self-tuning technology ensures engine performance is always optimised for consistently high power; it also makes manual carburettor adjustments a thing of the past. the FS 560 C-EM is fitted with a circular saw blade. A Big Bust Up The NEW Draper Expert Ground Buster® does exactly what the name says and is designed for use in remote locations where no power supply is available. It maximises force to bust through hard ground, concrete, concrete blocks, rocks, solid clay, tree roots and other tough surfaces found during demolition and hole digging. The Ground Buster® is available in 8kg and 10kg models and is made from
heavy duty carbon steel with a hardened chisel point. The internal sliding weight in the shaft gives a secondary impact that intensifies the force applied, helps to prevent bounce back recoil and reduce jarring and vibration in the hands, wrists and body.
