Annual Golf Day washed out by wicked weather


On Wednesday 25 April, the Greater London Region Annual Golf Day – which was being held at Old Fold Manor golf course, Potters Bar – was completely washed out by heavy rain, coupled with thunder and lightning. This annual golfing event has now been rearranged to take place on 4 September, and DRM Emma Burgess (with her fingers crossed) stated: ‘We are really hoping the weather is going to be much kinder to us in September.’

Following a panel interview on 18 April, James Rayner from ECA member company SJD Associates in Milton Keynes was selected as the East Midlands regional winner for the ECA Edmundson Apprentice and Adult Trainee of the Year Awards. The regional director of Edmundson Electrical will present James with a cheque for £500, as well as a toolkit and certificate of commendation later this year. ‘James works very hard and is a real asset to our company,’ said SJD Electrical company director Ruth Devine. ‘His personal development has been impressive since completing his apprenticeship and we are extremely proud of his achievement as regional winner. the necessary skills for our growing business. We currently have four apprentices learning their trade.’ SJD Electrical is used to being recognised for its apprenticeship training. After being nominated in the Small Employer of the Year category by Milton Keynes College, the company was highly commended for apprenticeship training at the LSC South East Learning Skills Award 2009.

Dunstall Park Racecourse


The West Midlands region held a seminar and evening at the races for members and their clients at Dunstall Park Racecourse on Friday 13 April 2012. Not an auspicious date for the horses, you might think, but the seminar was very successful, with more than 100 people in attendance.


Newey & Eyre Midlands region sponsored the event and provided some very interesting speakers. Mark Beeston, regional chairman for the ECA West Midlands and managing director of Gilkes (Nantwich), introduced the speakers.

Mark Beighton from SCR spoke to attendees about the company’s coating products. SCR specialises in the restoration of existing suspended ceilings by recoating the tiles and grid with their unique coating to bring dirty and stained ceilings back to a like new condition without the need to replace it, and at cost savings of up to 90 per cent over replacement ceilings. Paul Willett from Energy Guardian also delivered a presentation. Energy Guardian is a scalable, fully-installed, energy management service suitable for a wide range of businesses and organisations. The company designs and manufactures its own range of innovative smart-metering hardware, software and offer an extensive range of additional energy saving solutions for specific areas, as well as offering energy coaching to help make further savings. Last to present was Paul Collins from


Hager, who spoke about its Tebis TX System that uses bus technology, providing a series of benefits over conventional installation practices.

Greater London region welcomes new chairman


At the Greater London Regional Executive meeting on 29 May 2012 there was a change of regional chairman. Raymond Jackson of Allan Jackson Electrical stood down following his two- year term as chairman, handing over to Kevin Delaney of Shepherd Engineering (SES). ‘It is an honour and privilege to be elected as Greater London regional chairman,’ said Kevin Delaney. ‘I am looking forward to supporting the London members with the challenges that our industry will face over the next few years. London is not special, it is just different.’
