Suppliers all have different ways of keeping their dealers happy and informed, but JHS’ method is to invite them to its HQ once a year to check out what’s new and meet up face-to-face. Adam Savage went to see what this year’s Event had to offer…
o put an event on every year for your dealers is not easy. Not only is it costly – financially and in
terms of the effort required to ensure everything goes to plan – there also needs to be enough new ‘stuff ’ on show to make it worthwhile for both the organisers and visitors. John Hornby Skewes therefore
deserves credit for continuing to put on its annual Event, especially when many businesses in the industry are looking to cut back on this sort of expenditure. As for new ‘stuff ’, there was plenty on
show here once again, including the full Carlsbro and Studiomaster lines, while several of the supplier’s other major brands displayed their expanded offerings. Perhaps the most notable of these was the Odyssey range of brass and woodwind instruments designed by master craftsman Peter Pollard, which has grown significantly in the last few years.

HK Audio unveiled two new portable PA systems – LUCAS Nano 300 and Elements Plus. Here, the German company demonstrated the surprising
power and clarity that the Nano’s two highly compact satellite speakers can produce and the practicality offered by the upgraded Elements system. In the adjacent room, visitors were
shown the full Studiomaster range now available from the supplier. This included a wide variety of mixers and loudspeakers. Back in the main Exhibition Marquee,
Trev Wilkinson was on hand to talk dealers through the new Fret-King Black Label range, which features high-quality guitars with mid-range RRPs. The main hall was also where the full Carlsbro line could be found. JHS now supplies all of its amp variations, as well as its portable PA and electronic drum models. Also new this year was an Amp Demo
Area, which allowed retailers to try out a selection of products from Carlsbro, Fishman and Kustom for themselves. Artists such as Dave ‘Bucket’ Colwell, Gordon Giltrap and Jerry Donahue were all part of this year’s Live Sound Stage line-up as well.
