Hotel Reveals Exciting Multi-Million-Dollar Renovation

HE LIGHTS ON BROADWAY shine a bit brighter now that the New York Marriott Mar- quis has unveiled its multi-mil- lion-dollar renovation in Times Square. At the heart of the extensive revamp, a reinvented lobby with new signature res- taurants and lounges provides


guests with a central hub in which to work, social- ize, and eat and drink. The hotel is currently in the process of updating all 1,946 guest rooms and has already renovated the high-tech, 29,000-square- foot Broadway Ballroom, among its more than 100,000 square feet of total meeting space. ”Even though we celebrated the hotel’s 25th anniversary last year, it feels like a brand-new opening,” says Mike Stengel, vice president, mar- ket general manager for Marriott International. “We still have the great staff and service our guests have come to know, but in a whole new setting.” New custom furnishings with clean, crisp lines

the city’s famous New Year’s Eve ball drop, features six spherical chandeliers, each made up of 234 shimmering glass balls that reflect the bright lights and electronic billboards of Broadway below.


have added an easy elegance to the guest rooms — already some of the most spacious in the city. Accent pin lighting mounted on oversized headboards evokes a streetscape grid, while high-def TVs, ergonomic desk consoles, and pullout loveseats provide the conveniences and comforts of home. The hotel has redesigned more than 1,000 guest rooms thus far, with the remainder aimed for completion by spring 2012.

Marquis include the Crossroads American Kitchen and Bar and the newly renovated Broadway Lounge. Crossroads features a spectac- ular two-story, mirrored spiral bar encircled with 11 high-def TVs as well as a mix of sofas and armchairs perfect for relaxing and catch- ing the latest news highlights. The restaurant also offers a more tra- ditional seating area surrounded by sliding panel screens for pri- vate events of up to 100 guests. Also available for events, the hotel’s Broadway Lounge features two-story arched windows with dramatic panoramic views of Times Square.

The centerpiece of the hotel’s meeting space, with a capacity of


2,400 people, the Broadway Ballroom has been dubbed “the ball- room of the future,” with its amorphous, programmable cut-crystal chandeliers and black “vanishing” ceiling that can be transformed in myriad ways. For more intimate functions, the new Liberty Room on the hotel’s eighth floor overlooks famous Shubert Alley and seats groups of up to 140 people. n
