Region of Peel West Brampton Reservoir and Pumping Station, Brampton, Ontario, Canada The pumping station was built in response to the ever-increasing population of Brampton, which averaged a population increase of 20,000 people per year for several years. Region offi cials wanted to ensure the new facility would have a long- term, high-performance roofi ng solution capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions and wanted the architecture to blend in with the surrounding rural area. As a result, the architects designed the facility to resemble a modernized version of an old-fashioned barn. The 90,000-square-foot project consists


of 20,000 square feet of 18-inch, 0.040-inch aluminum R-Mer Span standing seam roof panels from Garland Canada Inc., while the buried water reservoir comprises the remaining 70,000 square feet. Due to the various changes in plane on the roof, knee joints were engineered on-site, providing continuous 65-foot panels and ensur- ing superior watertight protection. The standing seam metal system was chosen for this project for its strength, versatility, and industry-leading performance in windstorm and water penetration resistance. The aluminum panels also provided the durability and strength needed for a long- term, high-performance solution. Both the metal and buried roofi ng portions


of this high-performance roofi ng solution were provided by Garland Canada and are covered by a 25-year warranty.
