Nexo: The sound, the look, and The Voice

By Erica Basnicki

NEXO’S UNUSUALLY- SHAPED 45°N-12 stage monitors and a GEO S8 PA system carried the final 24 voices competing in The Voice of Ireland at the 1,260-seat Mahony Hall at The Helix in Dublin. Arranged in two circles

between the judges’ armchairs

and the performers’ position on stage, half of the cluster provided a stereo monitor mix to the performers, while the other accommodated foldback to the judges. Dublin-based rental company Sound Design provided the audio for the TV talent show for a total of nine live shows, utilising left/right arrays of 8 S805s with 2 S830s, and 3

RS15 subs each side, with 12 PS10-R2s for fills and hot spots. According to Sound Design’s

John Vickers: “The production designers were very drawn to the look of the Nexo monitors, which are not the norm. They have a low profile which is suited to television, but their triangular design encouraged their use as a feature on the set.” www.nexo-sa.com

FINNISH NATIONAL public broadcaster YLE Yleisradio OY Finland (YLE) has standardised its archiving equipment and software to the NOA Audio Solutions archiving platform. Added to YLE’s equipment list were software and hardware components from NOA’s ingestLINE, an N6000 mainframe, four N6191 A-D converters, four N6035 tape light barriers and four N6232 remote control cards.

“We’ve been running several

NOA systems since 2003 with great success, so when it came time to review our installation, we decided to consolidate all ingest clients onto the NOA platform,” said Jouni Frilander, systems manager at YLE. “With NOA, we can extend our throughput with the integration of the existing archive workflows, including the connection to the database. We also appreciate the ability to detect splices and cuts on tape reliably via the N6035L tape light barrier.” www.noa-audio.com
