BILLED AS the largest pro-AV communications show in the world,

some 34,000 industry professionals are set to descend on the Las Vegas Convention Center for this year’s extravaganza. As well as the latest technological developments and the plentiful networking opportunities, other highlights will include the opening keynote on live production techniques from Cirque du Soleil’s Viva Elvis company manager, Tony Ricotta (16.00, 12 June) and the annual InfoComm Awards ceremony. Interest in AVB is bound to be

at the top of the agenda at this year’s event. Over at the AVnu Alliance Pavilion, there will be live demonstrations of AVB- enabled devices showing the capabilities of AVB networking. Systems from 15 equipment manufacturers and platform providers will be on display to highlight interoperability. A comprehensive AVB

education programme will be available to visitors. It aims to illustrate how the interoperable solution is revolutionising AV networking for manufacturers, integrators, consultants and other professionals. The full programme of seminars will look to highlight the diverse roles of the AV ecosystem, with sessions ranging from introductions to AVB, advanced technical overview, and advantages for manufacturers to application-specific topics covering house of worship, education and live performance, among others. The seminars are scheduled to

run from 10.00 Wednesday 13 June – with the first entitled ‘Live Events with AVB: How Will One Open Standard Set Change A/V Network?’ – until 15.00 Friday 15 June in a finishing seminar entitled ‘A Technical Deep Dive: Uncover the Mysteries of AVB’. “As we roll out the AVnu certification programme for AVB devices, we have been getting more and more requests for AVB education programmes,” says Lee Minich, marketing chair for AVnu Alliance. “Our

presence at InfoComm underscores the deep co-operation among members to make AVB deployment a reality.” On the showfloor, Braehler

has added a host of new features to its digital wired Digimic system set to be presented at the show. These include a voting system that can be connected to PowerPoint via a plug-in module facility (working with Windows 7 under 32 or 64 bit), an upgraded supporting menu comprising simultaneous interpreting menus, a channel selector and a range of voting settings. The upgraded CMic CSV

delegate unit will also be on display. It incorporates a light- sensitive OLED display, which reacts to ambient light

producing a high and low backlight in light and dark environments, respectively. The discussion component

now features different microphone operation modes, one of which is voice activation for hands-free operations. Also available is a special voice activation mode for courtroom applications; when activated, a ‘noise’ signal is sent to a specific output on the central control unit (DCEN) resulting in existing audio being replaced. At its stand, Furman will be

presenting the CN-1800S and CN-2400S SmartSequencing safe power solutions. The units offer AV power distribution, protection, filtration and sequential system power on/off in 1RU, 120VAC rackmount units for installations. “At InfoComm 2012, we will demonstrate several products from our Contractor Series that are designed to power and protect even the most advanced systems in commercial installations,” states Dave Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Panamax/Furman.

InfoComm, the leading US showcase for all things AV, gets underway on 9 June this year (convention) with the exhibition beginning on 12 June

As well as the standard features, such as the control and sequence of multiple secondary units from one primary, both units have optional RS-232-to-Ethernet adaptors that add full IP- addressability for configuration to any web-based devices, such as smartphones and iPads. Furman will also be holding a

manufacturers’ training session that will run from 1pm to 2.30pm on 15 June. Attendees will learn how to resolve common power issues in a variety of different installation scenarios, with topics that will include AC control, voltage regulation, Cloud-based remote monitoring and more. “To bring it all together, be

sure to attend our manufacturers’ training and see how these products and our BlueBOLT Cloud-based platform can meet the power and energy management needs of any commercial installation,” finishes Keller. Merging Technologies will be

at InfoComm with its Ovation Media Server and Sequencer, and the Horus flagship I/O system, which is now being delivered and is already making its mark on the live sound market. Both products have been exhibited at previous international trade exhibitions this year. Outline will be displaying its

new Line Array Subwoofer speakers the FlySub 15 iMode and FlySub 15. The speakers are intended to supplement Outline’s iMode powered mini- COM.P.A.S.S. and passive EIDOS 265 line array speaker systems, for fixed installation, auditorium, outdoor and light touring applications. The FlySub 15 iMode is an iMode/internal amplifier powered subwoofer equipped with a long- stroke 15” loudspeaker. It has been designed for the reinforcement of low frequencies for the Mini- COM.P.A.S.S. Vertical Line Array (VLA) loudspeaker system. The 15” loudspeaker, which has acoustic loading calculated at the top end of the upper bass

frequency range, is fitted with a dual spider to enable the system to stand up to hard use. Ventilation has been upgraded to handle power peaks and measurement of electro-acoustic parameters based on high level signals are also employed. The FlySub 15 iMode is also equipped with Outline’s proprietary iMode technology and an efficient Class D amplifier (1,000W EIAJ at 8 ohm). The frequency response is from 35Hz to 550Hz (-10dB) with peak SPL at 136.5dB. The FlySub 15 passive

subwoofer is designed for use with the new EIDOS 265 LA V LA, which is also a passive system. It features the same dimensions, mechanical and electro-acoustic specifications as the FlySub 15 iMode, but requires an external amplifier and DSP to match iMode performance. Phoenix Audio Technologies will be debuting its Quattro3 (Q3) family of tabletop conference speakerphones. The range includes the USB MT301, PSTN MT302, Smart MT303, Power MT304 and IP Phone MT305 interface models. All the models have interchangeable interfaces and can be daisy- chained and powered from a single source using a standard Ethernet cable.

The Smart MT303 features a

built-in rechargeable battery, while the IP Phone MT305 incorporates a built-in dialer and the PSTN MT302 comprises a built-in dialer and rechargeable battery. Other major features include a four-microphone beam-forming array, a newly designed loudspeaker, an external sound- reinforcement microphone, a library of audio colour filters and three-way interface bridging capabilities.
