Keyline highlights

Crossrail role Keyline, part of the Travis Perkins Group, made its Infrarail debut to mark the launch of its nationwide operation delivering building materials to the rail industry. The company has opened a National Rail Office in Canning Town, East London, which will be supported by six regional offices with dedicated rail specialists and a fleet of 179 crane-operated vehicles, 60 of which are being procured as part of a fleet modernisation to better meet the needs of the rail sector.

Rail Sector Manager Richard Wade commented: “The creation of this dedicated operation means we are best placed to supply heavy building materials to organisations within the rail industry. Our unrivalled expertise and fully approved resources ensure we can work in partnership with all specialist contractors, large infrastructure companies and rail organisations to supply the right products to the right place, at the right time.” As part of the seminar programme at Infrarail, Keyline’s Sales Director David Stewart delivered a paper entitled ‘The Challenges of Delivering to Crossrail’. He outlined some of the complexities of being a key supplier for Europe’s largest construction project – including serving multiple worksites and contractors, restricted site access and limited on site storage, all within the constraints of operating in central London. The project entails working with some of the UK’s leading manufacturers supplying both rail-approved and innovative products. This is in line with Crossrail’s aim of using energy- efficient materials and systems during the construction phase and when the railway is operational. Keyline’s commitment includes the use of Crossrail-compliant vehicles equipped with close proximity mirrors and side sensors to protect cyclists and pedestrians, reversing cameras and white noise reversing alarms, while staff are equipped with new PPE and given additional training.

New on the HellermannTyton stand was M-BOSS Lite, a specially developed system for the identification of cables, wiring, pumps, pipes and valves, with particular applications in aggressive environments such as rail. The computer-driven machine embosses characters directly onto stainless steel markers which can be secured using HellermannTyton’s MBT stainless steel ties. The company’s Business Development Manager, Mass

Transit Industry, Kevin Bunfield said: “Infrarail is a perfect platform for us to demonstrate our product offering to the rail industry and a great way for professionals to try our products, speak to us directly and ensure they are fully equipped with the right cable management solutions.” Also on show was the HelaGuard range of metallic and non-metallic conduits and fittings, steel and nylon ties, installation tools and printable marking systems.
