The company has also implemented a female mentoring programme, whereby FDM’s ‘Female Champions’ mentor other women colleagues and organise events to raise awareness of the attractive opportunities in the IT industry for women. n

We can confirm that we will build GSKs first new UK factory for almost 40 years. We are also actively considering other investment in our UK manufacturing network which would create further jobs and reinforce the UKs international competiveness as a world leader in life sciences.”
The news comes after the inclusion in the Budget announcement of the ‘Patent Box’ – aimed at encouraging research
and development in the UK. The plan is to introduce a lower rate of corporation tax on profits that are sourced from UK-owned intellectual property. Prime Minister David Cameron described it as: “a major investment that will create many highly skilled jobs and provide a great boost to the economy. We have a world-class life -sciences industry, and I am determined not just to keep it here in the UK but significantly increase it too. GSK currently employs around 15,000
people in the UK, including 6,000 in manufacturing. They have also recently announced plans to reimburse 100 per cent of uncapped tuition fees starting in 2015, for all students employed under the company’s graduate scheme. n

where specialist roles requiring highly skilled professionals will continue to be in demand, despite general uncertainty facing the economy and job market. He says that companies recognise that they need to find ways to grow their business, but that they also need to prepare for possible new markets and industry developments, particularly in the sphere of finance, accounting and IT. Other professional occupations in HR and administrative capacities will also see increases in demand and remuneration in the coming year. n
