EDITOR’S LETTER

A positive outlook

The papers may be full of gloomy headlines about mounting student debt and high graduate unemployment, but it’s important for graduates to remain positive and remember that with a degree come great opportunities. As a graduate you are in the best position to find a good job with a decent starting salary – but it will require drive, determination and enthusiasm to find it. It’s also important to remember that there are jobs out there and employers are looking to hire graduates to fill these vacancies (see page 4). In addition to attending the National Graduate Recruitment Exhibition, there are a variety of innovative ways that you can look for work. For example, social networking sites offer the perfect opportunity to get your CV out there and connect with those who could help you land your dream job. See page 8 to find out more. Banks are also keen to recruit new graduates and with the right attitude you can secure your foot on the ladder to a highly successful and rewarding career in finance. See pages 10-14 to find out how banks recruit and for tips on how to stand out at an assessment centre. Fresh from appearing as a contestant on the BBC show The Apprentice, technology entrepreneur Nick Holzherr talks about what inspired him to achieve success. Turn to page 16 for the full interview. In addition to this, career experts are on hand to give advice and answer your questions (pages 26-27).

So avoid the negative headlines and keep positive in your job search. Best of luck!
