Yusuf Nuur, 24, is on a two-year graduate programme with commercial bank GE Capital in Bristol. He gives his tips on how to prepare for an assessment day
“I am on a rotational assignment with G Capital’s risk management programme, which involves a two-year MA assignment. I got the job by fi lling out G Capital’s application form and answering their competence questions. I then had a 0-minute phone interview, where I had to answer the competence questions as well as motivational questions. I was subsequently invited to an assessment centre, which took a whole day. I had four back-to-back interviews, a case study, and a presentation.

GradJobs.co.uk | Summer 2012 It was challenging but educational. I
wouldn’t say it was diffi cult as the assessors are really helpful and they provide guidance. I’d been to other assessment centres
before, which had increased my confi dence as I knew what to expect. The more practice you have, the better. I think I was successful as I’d researched
the company fully beforehand, basically done my homework. ou need to prepare, and adhere to the skills set out in the company guidelines. My tips would be to not arrive late Also,
ask a lot of questions – the assessors are very approachable. Make sure you’re prepared and interact with the people you’re up against from the start so that it’s easier if you have a group exercise stage. I thoroughly recommend a banking
career. Working for G Capital has taken me by surprise – everything is so fl exible, with new challenges every day. It’s exceeded all my expectations.
