computer science and telecommunications
I joined FM Group for an exciting opportunity to pursue a career in the IT sector. I specialised in application support because I believe that the role provides an excellent opportunity for a long-term career in the IT sector as it is always at the edge of technology and innovation – thus keeping me abreast of the developments in the IT community. Shortly after joining FM, I was placed with HSBC in Sheffi eld as an analyst developer. My role involved supporting one of their global applications within the intelligence and compliance team, relating to fi nancial crime such as fraud and money-laundering, and to terrorist fi nancing and breaches of sanctions. I worked with extraordinary individuals and gained invaluable experience in the development of new functions and components, managing day-to-day technical problems and the ongoing systems support of live systems within a team. The knowledge I gained in my fi rst year with FM allowed me to pursue a much more vigorous and infl uential role. FM have now placed me working with Barclays Capital in London where I am providing production support for the highly demanding fi xed-income trading desk.

platform. Few scenarios can tick so many boxes and as a result I joined, excited to drive the automotive market in the front seat, while being given the opportunity to explore other technologies and specialist fi elds. I studied at Brunel University where I was prepared for the
reality of design engineering in a commercial environment. At interview I presented myself as a young professional with a wide knowledge base supporting an engineering core. Using the people skills, development tools, commercial concepts and manufacturing understanding I learnt at university I am able to apply myself to the day-to-day business needs here at Bosch. The graduate specialist programme at Bosch has helped me to further enhance these skills.
I am one of the propulsion engineers for GP7200 engines repaired at the GE Aviation Wales facility. This means I develop the repair requirements for GP7200 engines and then issue instructions to the workshop, ensuring that we fulfi ll our customers’ needs and return the engine to service. My secondary role is to develop the processes used to assemble and disassemble the GP7200 engines here at Wales. I decided to apply after a fellow student from the Loughborough University engineering department recommended GE as a company for engineering internship. I went on to do further research and the internship at GE Aviation Wales looked to be a superb opportunity for both my technical and personal development. Once I completed the internship I was offered a place on the G Bursary Scheme which supported my fi nal year studies and enabled me to return to the business in a full-time role as a trainee. I’ve had an interest in gas turbines from early on in my degree course. My job at GE Aviation Wales means I get to see the engines and their parts fi rst-hand, turning gas turbines from the 2 drawings I saw throughout my university course into reality.
