New generation of TriCasters hits NAB

By Jake Young

NEWTEK UNVEILEDa new line of TriCaster live production systems that use a completely reengineered platform — and introduced capabilities for live event producers and media publishing professionals. The next-generation product family, which includes TriCaster 8000, TriCaster 855 and TriCaster 455 — delivers live video content to multiple viewing platforms. “With 28% of the global online

population watching video on mobile phones and video accounting for 40% of all internet traffic, the industry has reached a point where professionals need tools with capabilities that far exceed most traditional video production systems,” said Andrew Cross, NewTek CTO. “We’ve reengineered our TriCaster line from the ground up to help video producers move beyond the confines of traditional equipment, and keep pace with the dramatic shift in consumer viewing habits. Using a TriCaster, people can deliver content with unprecedented speed, to larger audiences, on virtually any device or popular social media site — and with even greater high definition network-quality production values.”

improved version of the existing iCR file player, this intuitive device offers characteristic AmberFin sophistication at an affordable price. It provides users with new features such as segmentation workflow

mark up and a generic metadata tool.

Users can customise XML files that are consumed and created by iCR. Furthermore, users can build seamless MAM workflows via web services without having to programme AmberFin’s iCR system. Using the system’s powerful feature set, users can construct simple workflows using configuration buttons to create workflow tasks. With high quality HD-SDI

playback of all major formats from both local and shared storage, access to full broadcast grade monitoring and tools bring new levels of trust and confidence to a user’s media assets. All video, audio and data properties can be monitored through a single interface with full support for closed caption and ancillary data. www.amberfin.com

NEWS INBRIEF

Boss Stream to SMPTE Dimetis Boss Stream Viewer, a software-based multiviewer for monitoring and analysis of video streams, was extended in a variety of ways at NAB. Whereas in the past different hardware devices were necessary, intelligent software today is capable of decoding, analysing and monitoring video and audio files with one device for production and a return signal. This is a further development in analogue video standards where Dimetis meets the requirements of SMPTE. The Boss Stream Viewer combines SD-/HD-SDI and ASI transport streams and is configurable via the Web-GUI. WSS (Wide Screen Signalling) or AFD (Active Format Description) detects the aspect ratio and adapts the view accordingly. Each of the integrated audio channels can be extracted, and up to eight monitored. Additional features include connection to SNMP management, scalability and configurable error detection. www.dimetis.com

TriCaster 8000 includes a new ‘Share’ panel that enables video clips, individual stills, or batches of ISO-grabbed frames of the live show to be distributed to multiple social media platforms

The new line includes standard

features such as Apple AirPlay support and NewTek’s IsoCorder technology for recording of multiple input sources and output options with embedded timecode and four audio tracks. IsoCorder technology has been updated to include support for non-linear editing applications for both the Mac and PC, without the need for transcoding. Audio mixing is more flexible with the ability to delegate the process to a separate iPad control app, or one of the Avid Artist series control surfaces. The TriCaster 8000 is designed

for production and media publishing professionals who deliver live video for large, complex events, with full

integration of social media production tools. It includes a new ‘Share’ panel that enables video clips, individual stills, or batches of ISO-grabbed frames of the live show to be distributed to multiple social media platforms, including: Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Flickr — or FTP-transferred to a directory — in a single pass. The TriCaster 855 is a

facilities-class system, equipped with 24-channel switching, and inputs for up to eight cameras. The TriCaster 455 is targeted to mobile producers who want to deliver professional live video content to a worldwide audience, without concerns for location limitations. www.newtek.com

Less TV loudness Cobalt Digital presents a ‘first’ in comprehensive transport-based loudness processing at NAB. Using Linear Acoustic Aeromax technology, Cobalt’s LMNTS (Loudness Management for n-Transport Streams) represents a leap in multi- stream loudness processing by offering an economic, consistent solution. Ideal for MVPDs and MSOs where a large number of diverse programming sources must be simultaneously controlled, LMNTS performs automatic loudness processing across many transport streams. It operates at the MPEG IP transport layer to provide a practical loudness management solution without the need or complexity of external codecs transferring between baseband and MPEG external interfaces. www.cobaltdigital.com

Fresh commentary on Glensound Talent Box The Glensound Talent Box is the next generation of single unit commentary systems. Digital in both control and internal audio circuits with extended positions gives each commentator their own remote control unit. A web page allows an engineer to remotely control incoming audio levels — a first for a single unit commentary box. Talent Boxes can also link for multiple commentator systems. Three front panel inputs on XLR are mic/line switchable. Input B has an additional parallel input on a 3.5mm jack socket. There is an adjustable gain control and a phantom power switch to add 12v or 48v phantom power. www.glensound.co.uk
