and other treatments in order to care for themselves and their skin.
"You could also advance your own training and maybe offer a new treatment yourself like face peels or specialist facial treatments. The demand for face peels is very high and after a course of treatments the results are amazing. By doing this, you are generating more revenue yourself.
"In my opinion I think it is a shame to have a room left idle, even if you didn't want to rent it out or if you weren't in a position to offer something new, you could easily turn it into a nice relaxation room for your clients where they could go and sit comfortably for a while after having a treatment. This would be a nice touch to finish the treatment and would encourage them to revisit the salon."

"Firstly though do your research. Find out from your customers what treatments they would be interested in. You could even run the clinic / themed event during an evening when the whole salon is fully available which could generate more money for you as you will be renting out more space.
"Advertise your event - use your social network site, website and print marketing materials for displaying as posters and hand outs in the salon.
"Take non-refundable deposits from customers when they book in - you do not want to be left with a bill to pay for the event.
"After the event when you are working out your costs and profits, don't forget to take into account any outgoings you have had to facilitate the event, i.e: advertising, electricity etc and balance this against the profit made so you can clearly evaluate if a particular theme is worth running again or indeed even bringing the treatment in permanently.
"So remember the 3 steps are: 1) Research 2) Advertise your event 3) Evaluate the Cost vs Profit."

"Over the years, I have sublet rooms on several occasions, in my salons, Spas and health clubs. When it works it can be very successful for all parties, but when it didn't work out, it was disastrous, so my first piece of advice is to tread carefully.
"If you want to successfully rent space in your salon, here is what I suggest:
"Check your lease and double check with your landlord that you are permitted to sublet.
"Do some research, for example - what services would complement your brochure? Have your clients expressed an interest in treatments you are not currently providing?
"Which is more beneficial to you and your salon - to sublet the space for a rent or to do a percentage split on revenue? Personally, I prefer to rent space, as I like to promote and market my business, rather than somebody else's. If I am working on a revenue split, then the responsibility to get the clients falls on me.
"Draw up a written contract outlining your terms and conditions, making this document as specific as possible. Be very clear about what you are providing and how much you are prepared to assist your new tenant.
"Insurance is very important, you will be providing public liability, but you must get copies of professional indemnity insurance from the tenant, as you cannot be responsible for their work.
"Get references about anybody you are planning on allowing to work in your salon. You have worked long and hard to establish your business. The idea is to add to your business in every way, not to have any disruption.
"Find tenants who have a clientele to bring with them, that way their clients become yours and vice versa. Successfully subletting a room can seriously generate more revenue for you, both in the rental income and in new clients coming through your door. It's definitely worth a try!"
