twomonths to go
With just two months to go, brides are beginning to think about (and worry about!) what they will actually look like on the day, so now is the perfect time to encourage them to come in to the salon and try out some ‘looks’ with a make-up trial.
Make-up is so important to a bride on her big day and it’s one of those things that you can’t imagine what it will look like until the day - unlike the dress that they can look at and try whenever they like. “A girl’s wedding day is the most important day of her life. She wants to look more beautiful than she has ever looked before,” says Gillian Moore, owner of Fuschia.
Therefore, the bride will need to have trust in you so it’s important you gain it. Bridesmaids, mother-of-the bride and mother-of-the-groom will also want to look their best on the day and if you can’t sell them any other treatment, make-up is one area you should be able to.
Celebrity make-up artist, Brett Freedman, expects to see soft, pink lips and cheeks. “Since wedding dresses are usually white, anything used to darken the skin will really pop,” says Brett. “Don’t be afraid to use subtler shades than usual to keep in the ‘soft’ theme.”
Emma Doherty, Jane Iredale Brand Manager, continues: “I love to use colour in bridal make-up so that the bridesmaids, flowers and overall theme harmonise. The choice of colour for eye make-up, foundation, lips and cheeks must be carefully considered to ensure that it is appropriate for the lighting, the strength of colour at a distance, and that it flatters without looking crude.
“During the consultation and make-up trial these aspects would be decided based upon the bride’s colouring, flowers, bridesmaids’ colours, theme and style of the bridal gown. For example, if the bridesmaid dresses and flowers are pale blue and white, the bride’s dress is modern with silver accessories, and the bride is brunette, has pale skin, dark eyes; we may choose to use silvers, greys and ivory tones on the eyes. These will complement the flowers and make her brown eyes pop and we might use

It also helps to smooth out any wrinkles or lines.

pink tones on the cheeks and lips as they complement blue but don’t over power the eyes.”
It is recommended that brides have two trials - the first to analyse the skin and talk through styles of make-up, the second to assess the previous trial and put right anything the brides wasn’t 100% happy with.
Jane Iredale offer a wide range of mineral make-up products, ideal for the bride to be. Emma says: “Mineral products have the benefit of containing undiluted pigments, so a little goes a long way. The minerals adhere well to the skin and are tear-resistant and long-lasting, so perfect for events where make-up needs to look great all day and night, with little or no touch ups.”
Ideal for bridal make-up, AirbaseMake- up is an airbrush make-up formulated to mould the durability of film make-up with the practicality of every day make-up.
