Another Volvo for
ROB BOOL PLANT HIRE Illminster based general contractor and hirer, Rob Bool Plant Hire has taken delivery of a second Volvo compact excavator, a new ECR48C from Volvo CE’s utility dealer for the south west of England, Plant & Engineering Services Ltd.
Opting for the 4.8 tonne compact excavator from Volvo came about from several deciding factors according to Proprietor Rob Bool. “We purchased a second hand EC55B about three years ago for a specific project and enjoyed that experience in terms of reliability and performance. Now, the nature of the work we are undertaking around the Illminster area has dictated the need for a similar sized machine, so based on previous experience decided to opt for the ECR48C with the reduced tail swing,” he said. “We are certainly impressed with the build quality of the machine, the over- all package and support from P&ES and not least the prospect of a good residual value when it comes time to trade,” he continued.
The Volvo ECR48C is powered by a Volvo 2.2 litre low emission engine producing 35 hp coupled to a closed centre, load sensing

hydraulic system for fast cycle times, smooth control and inde- pendence of each machine movement. Two speed travel on the
machine is fully automatic whilst the operator’s environment boasts one of the most spacious for the machine’s size on the market. Air conditioning with well positioned vents for effective heating, cooling and de-misting was also ordered as an optional extra by Rob Bool.
The machine offers a generous horizontal reach of 6.1 metres, a dig depth of 3.8 metres and a lift capacity of 412kg at full reach across the carriage. A full range of attachments and buckets are easily changed thanks to either a manual or hydraulic quick hitch. The ECR48C supplied to Rob Bool Plant Hire has been equipped with a Harford hydraulic ‘I’ lock quick hitch and a full set of buckets.
The new Volvo ECR48C joins a mixed fleet of general plant operated by Rob Bool Plant Hire. The company is engaged in general contracting, groundworks and landscaping projects as well as agricultural contracting and plant hire within a thirty mile radius of Illminster.
