owever, far from resting on these impressive laurels, the team at Volvo is already planning additional staff training, further improvements to customer service centre premises
and a determination to give something back to the communities within which those centres are based.
The achievement is excellent news for UK customers, as an engaged, joined-up workforce will provide higher standards of customer care. “Employee engagement is proven to have a positive knock-on effect on customer service,” says Human Resources Manager Maxine Knowles. “We believe that our people are the differentiator that improves and enhances the customer experience,” adds Managing Director Val Ledden.
With more than 1,000 companies taking part and almost a quarter of a million employees within those companies responding to independent workplace engagement surveys, success was never guaranteed. However, the dealership has always scored highly in internal Volvo Group surveys. “To be honest we didn’t think that we’d make the cut straight away,” says Mr Ledden. “None of our direct competitors has ever attempted anything like this, so we didn’t know how we would compare with the best in Britain.” “We knew there was going to be competition from the cream of the crop in the UK, but our view is that we can learn from the best,” says Ms Knowles. “We didn’t for one minute expect to get into the Top 100 in our first year, let alone be ranked 46. Being in the top 50 is truly amazing and a credit to the great people who work here.”
Best Companies sent a voluntary survey to all 340 employees within the company, with no influence permitted from management. An impressive two thirds of staff responded to that survey. Of that number
