The purchase of the new loading shovel from Volvo coincides with the completion of a new MRF where up to around 75000 tonnes of municipal solid waste and other recyclable materials will be handled per annum. “With our landfill operation diminishing here at Dissington, we looked to alternative means of either recycling or disposing of municipal and commercial waste with the result that our new facility came on stream in August,” said Operations Director Charles Riddell. “And key to this new venture was the acquisition of a suitably equipped front line machine and we settled on the L110G to fit the bill.”
The L110G features an 8 litre Stage IIIB compliant 258hp engine, optishift transmission and axles all designed and manufactured by Volvo. The new G model boasts a 20% increase in lifting force and 10% increase in breakout force over its predecessor. This cou- pled to the engine output with high torque at low engine rpm has resulted in faster cycle times and increased productivity. The machine delivered to Cumbria Waste Management Ltd features the long boom option to provide sufficient load over height when loading bulkers and a bespoke 5.0m3 hi tip bucket with spill guard. Further optional extras suited to the application include 23.5R25 Revolution solid wheels and tyres, Ardent fire suppression system, reversible fan and dustbuster fitted to the engine’s air intake, cab screen guarding, high intensity pulsing reverse lights and a Loadmaster on-board weighing system.
Commenting on the new acquisition for the Dissington site, Cumbria Waste Management’s Area Manager Gary Edmondson said; “We’ve been operating Volvo shovels for a considerable time now – in fact we are still operating an L90C we acquired back in 1995 which has served us exceptionally well so that’s why we decided to stick with what we know best. In addition, when we do need it, we enjoy a first class after sales support from the local Volvo home based engineer.” The new L110G has been supplied with a full repair and maintenance programme covered by Volvo’s Gold service agreement giving Cumbria Waste Management total peace of mind.
The new Volvo L110G will be deployed handling a whole variety of waste material coming into the Dissington site from the Allerdale and Copeland districts of Cumbria including municipal solid waste, glass, wood, paper, cardboard and plastics.
