“We need equipment that’s reliable and does the job,” says Mr Jacobs. “With vessels on berth we cannot afford to incur time penalties, so it’s imperative the machines doing the job of dis- charging or loading the cargo do so with no downtime and are productive at the same time,” he continues. “But when we do get the occasional problem we have immediate access to Volvo CE’s local home based engineer who’s prepared to help out at any hour of the day and the support we get from the Horsham support centre is equally impressive.”


The L120F’s have been retrofitted with CareTrack – Volvo CE’s telematic system as have all the existing Solent Stevedores’ fleet of Volvos. The machines have also been supported with extended driveline warranty and are covered under Volvo’s Blue service agreement. “We find the CareTrack system extremely beneficial to our operations and the flexibility to match the service agreements to our needs very helpful,” comments Lee Penfold who is in charge of maintenance at Solent Stevedores. “But what really helps us is the knowledge that we’ve got the full support from the team at Volvo just a phone call away.”
