The ex-Reading and ex-Penn- sylvania Silverliner II’s (built by Budd in 1962-’63 for both the Reading and PRR) and Silverliner III’s (built by St. Louis Car Co. in 1967 for the PRR) ae being retired at an alarming rate — only 11 were in service on the day of the trip, and that number was ex- pected to reach zero by the end of June. Making up the train was No. 9001 (ex-Read- ing Silverliner II), No. 266 (ex-PRR Silver- liner II) and No. 235 (ex-PRR Silverliner III and the last in service of eight cars that were modified for dedicated service on airport line trains from 1985-2000). Riding was the way


to go, as numerous photo opportunities were held on various SEPTA lines, and riding was faster than trying to negotiate auto traffic along the route. Thanks to both organiza- tions for two well-run trips. — S.B.
