The films cover a wide variety of Cuba’s last sugar mill steam oper- ations along with the extensive Hershey Electric interurban system, and were shot on two separate Trains Unlimited trips made in 2001 and 2002. There was still enough running back then to provide a taste of the glory days before the price of sugar collapsed and led to the closure of many mills around the island. The mill closures resulted in some locomotives being redis- tributed to the remaining operating mills. There is a little duplication on both trips,
but in most cases different routes and loco- motives are shown. In addition to ample train coverage, there is nice footage of local street and town scenes, people, old cars, rur- al life, and so on, to help place the rail oper- ations into context. Paper maps show the lo- cation of each mill on the island. Recall that sugar mill steam spent a lot of time shuf- fling cars about and doing mundane chores with only the largest mills offering long runs and solid lineside action, on these trips often set up by arrangement with the crews for smoky pictures and video footage. Volume One includes 45 minutes devoted
to the Hershey Electric interurbans in which the entire system is ridden via Gener- al Electric steeple cabs and Brill cars. The

Much of the steam in this volume is shown puttering around the mills solo or with cane cars. The rights of way in the mills are either grass or mud, while main line track seems to be well- ballasted.
