Hoyt Lecture: Stop Pouring, Start Casting

On April 20, John Campbell, emeri-

tus professor, Univ. of Birmingham, U.K., delivered this year’s honorary Hoyt Memorial lecture, “Stop Pouring, Start Casting,” in which he presented gating and feeding methods he argued would reduce the turbulence of pouring and allow the industry to significantly improve casting quality.

Cast Iron Honorary Lecture Torbjorn Skaland, Elkem Foundry

Div., Kristiansand, Vest-Agder, Nor- way, delivered the Cast Iron Honorary Lecture, “Inoculation—Facts & Fic- tion” (12-128) on April 18. Te presentation touched on fac-

tors affecting the interactions between inoculant and molten metal in form- ing nucleation sites for graphite.
