Mumbai for Bumi Armada is similarly a continuation of a close working relationship that has seen Keppel entrusted with all the Malaysian firm’s conversion projects to date. Tis is the seventh major collaboration between the two, and is due for completion towards the end of 2012. Te FPSO, which has been long-term chartered by India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited, is being converted from a tanker, Umbe, and will have a production capacity of 50,000 barrels of oil per day. The Petrofac FPSO Berentai project
involves the upgrading of the former FPSO East Fortune and includes refurbishment and life extension works, engineering, fabrication and installation of new topside process modules and the upgrading of its spread mooring and auxiliary support systems.
Destined for use offshore Malaysia, this facility will be able to handle both oil and gas production. The fast-track conversion of the LNG
carrier, Tenaga Empat into an FSU for MISC, is due for completion by June this year. Te FSU will have a storage capacity of 130,000m3 and will operate in Malaysia’s new Melaka LNG import terminal. The Perenco contract for the FSO
Massongo upgrading is another project that is now underway at the yard and includes refurbishment and life extension work, the fabrication and installation of a 14-spread mooring system and the upgrading of accommodation facilities. The storage capacity of the FSO will be around 2 million barrels of oil with four of the wing ballast tanks are being converted to cargo tanks. Due for completion in the third quarter of 2012, the FSO Massongo will be deployed offshore Cameroon. As SRCT was going to press Keppel secured further FPSO upgrading projects
from both SBM and Bumi Armada. SBM has contracted Keppel to refurbish and upgrade an existing FPSO vessel, FPSO Xikomba, with the work due for completion in the third quarter of 2013. Keppel Shipyard’s scope of work on FPSO Xikomba includes life extension, refurbishment and upgrading of the existing topside modules and turret mooring system as well as the installation and integration of new topside modules. Keppel is also to modify and upgrade Bumi Armada’s FPSO Armada Claire. Tis includes refurbishment and life extension works as well as installation and integration of topside modules. Work is expected to commence in third quarter of 2012, and will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2013. According to Keppel, the FPSO market
continues to show positive signs of continued upturn. Te company points out that there are a significant number of projects in Brazil, South East Asia and Africa which potentially require FPSOs, FSOs and FSRUs and which it is bidding for. SRCT
