LNG carrier work is a mainstay for N-KOM and will be strengthened by the GTT deal. The yard also continues to add further service
capabilities as part of its drive to become a one-stop hub for LNG and LPG vessel maintenance and repair. Global acoustic tests for membrane tanks can now be carried out at its premises and in January this year the yard signed an agreement with the Ras Laffan port authorities for coolants to be supplied to LPG vessels undergoing repairs at the yard. N-KOM has also handled container and tanker
projects in recent months. Samco Scandinavia was the yard’s first VLCC project and was completed this January for Goodwood ShipManagement, while Northern Valour was a significant containership repair undertaken in December 2011. Another notable milestone was the drydocking of Yuhsho, its first LPG tanker, which leſt the yard this January. N-KOM is also making its mark as a centre for rig
repair and modification. Te successful completion of spud-can cleaning and inspection works for the Gulf Drilling International’s (GDI) jackup, Al Khor, has paved the way for further rig projects. GDI subsequently engaged the yard for extensive repairs, modifications and upgrading work for Al Doha, and repair and conversion works for Zikreet. N-KOM has also been awarded a repair and maintenance contract for four jack-up rigs
for Ensco, the first of which Ensco 91, was in the yard in April this year.
Yards BSE thinks long term
Queensland shiprepair specialist BSE Maritime Solutions has signed a new 40 year lease on its 3.33 hectare dockyard facility in Brisbane. Te riverfront site in Brisbane’s historic Cairncross marine precinct includes a marine slipway capable of docking ships up to 2500tonnes lightship and 100m in length. Te lease with the Port of Brisbane secures the future
of the dockyard, which was first commissioned in 1972. BSE was initially granted a 30 year lease of the site in 1995, and since then the company has taken the initiative to develop the facility into a well-respected member of the Australian shiprepair industry. According to business development manager, Denis Maher: “We are committed to enhancing customer service standards by investing in new infrastructure in strategic locations, and we recently added the Cairns Slipways facility to the BSE group.” Te development of a new high-tech ship repair facility on a greenfield site in Central Queensland is also high on the company’s list of priorities.
