Callebaut appoints Technical Advisor at Chocolate Academy
Barry Callebaut has announced that Chef Celine Plano has been appointed Technical Advisor at the Barry Callebaut Chocolate Academy in Chicago. Chef Plano joins a team of Technical Advisors who work with chocolate artisans – pastry chefs, bakers, confectioners and caterers as well as up-and-com- ing chefs – to help them develop new ideas, cre- ations and recipes. Chicago Chocolate Academy team, to share her passion and wealth of experience with our students and our clients," said Patty Kopitas, Callebaut Brand Manager, Americas. "My years of experience in my profession, from
pastry shops to fine dining restaurants to luxury hotels, have prepared me for this wonderful opportu- nity," Chef Plano said. "I’m excited to share my knowledge and love of chocolate." Barry Callebaut Chocolate Academies are teach-
ing and training centres for artisans and profession- als who want to improve their working skills in chocolate and learn about new trends, techniques and recipes. There are 13 academies located around the world, with only one in US. They offer practical and theoretical courses for participants. More than 500 interested craftsmen attend events every week.
SCAE announces first recipients of
Coffee Diploma Six months since the inception of the SCAE Coffee Diploma System, the association has announced the first recipients of the SCAE Coffee Diploma. They are Fotis Lefas and Sofia Bikouvaraki of Coffee Lovers Editors & Trainers in Greece, who were the first participants in the scheme to earn 100 credits each, amassed from passing a selection of Level 1 and Level 2 Coffee Diploma courses. The SCAE says its Coffee Diploma System is proving

Sara Lee makes key coffee appointments
Sara Lee has announced that Harm-Jan van Pelt has been appointed Chief Operating Officer, Rest of World, at Sara Lee’s international coffee and tea rest of world division. The role covers the business in Eastern Europe, Australasia and Latin America. Mr van Pelt will continue to serve in the same role once the international coffee and tea business is spun-off from Sara Lee. Mr Van Pelt started with Sara Lee in 1998 and since performed a number
of international marketing and general management roles. He will continue to report into the CEO Michiel Herkemij. Sara Lee has also announced that Eugenio Minvielle will be appointed
Chief Operating Officer of the company’s international coffee and tea devel- oped markets division, primarily focused on Western Europe. Mr Minvielle is a seasoned executive with more than 20 years’ experience in the consumer packaged goods industry, primarily in the coffee industry. He joins Sara Lee from Unilever where he served as CEO North America, overseeing Unilever’s operations in the USA, Canada and the Caribbean. Luc Volatier has been appointed senior vice president, supply chain and
operations , international coffee and tea business. Mr Volatier will be in charge of all procurement, supply chain and manufacturing operations.
New appointments at IDH

the International Coffee Organization and as spokesperson for consumer countries in the International Cocoa Organization. Before accepting his new position he was ambassador to the UN Organization for Food and Agriculture in Rome. IDH has also announced that it has appointed a new
Country Manager in Vietnam. Dr Flavio Corsin has more than a decade of experience in Vietnam and other Asian coun- tries, a long history of developing relationships with Asian governments and an in-depth understanding of the commod- ity sector. Mr Corsin is the former director of ICAFIS, the sustainability
arm of the Vietnam Fisheries Society. In his new role as Manager IDH Vietnam he will support and enhance the tar- geted approach of the various IDH sector programmes in Vietnam, working closely with local stakeholder coalitions.
