SOUTH MIDWEST
The 2012 multisport season began with the annual Frost Yer Fanny Weekend, a three-day event that culminated with the regional duathlon championship, the Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon. It was a closed-course race held on the Texas Motor Speedway. The weekend featured clinics for coaches, race directors and officials as well as meetings for race directors, club presidents and another for all regional USA Triathlon South Midwest members. The Frost Yer Fanny Annual Awards Dinner/Banquet was a success and we look forward to improving this event as a weekend activity for the whole family.
Attention race directors: The SMW Regional Council is currently taking race director bids for the 2012 SMW Youth Series. If you have a youth race (participants of 8-15 years of age) and would like for your event to be considered for part of the five-race youth series, please forward your race vitae to
douglas.fairchild@amaisd.org.
Volunteers are always welcome and play a critical role in the success of the region and its goals and objectives. Interested in volunteering for a committee or the council? Contact the South Midwest Region at

NORTHEAST
What is the most effective and direct way you, an annual member of USA Triathlon, can positively influence USA Triathlon operations and direction? Get involved with your regional council!
Of your annual membership fee, 6.5 percent goes directly into the Northeast Region to provide services and benefits to the annual members in the region. With almost 19,000 members living in the six states that make up the Region, that comes to about $40,000. The distribution of this money is controlled by the Regional Council according to the annual goals and objectives of the organization as a whole and the region specifically.
In the past, the Northeast Region has expended the funds in the form of grants and program support in the areas of paratriathlon, winter triathlon, youth and junior development, and collegiate club support. We sponsor regional championships, currently including age group, club and aquabike. The council is also a presenting sponsor for two multisport expos (New York and Boston), the organizer for coaching CEUs, and supporter of the USA Triathlon officials program. Grants have been provided to clubs, race directors and private organizations for events.
The council consists of 11 voting members and currently three non-voting members. We are from every walk of life imaginable from academic to government to private industry. We are coaches and race directors working in industries related to triathlon and doctors, business owners, managers, and students in industries completely removed from triathlon. The one thing the council members have in common is we are all triathletes, with a love of triathlon and the willingness to take action.
