2012 ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships Headed to Alabama
The International Triathlon Union (ITU) is pleased to announce the 2012 ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships will be held in Pelham, Ala., on May 19 in a partnership with the XTERRA Southeast Championship. The event will feature $20,000 USD in prize money for elite athletes, who will compete over a 1.5-kilometer swim, 30-kilometer mountain bike and 10-kilometer trail run. Under-23, junior, age-group and paratriathlon races will also be contested in Pelham.


“The triathlon and multisport family is extensive and far reaching and ITU is delighted to form a partnership with XTERRA for our 2012 Cross Triathlon World Championships. We are confident the strong race organization and dynamic course will continue to push Cross Triathlon to a new level,” said Marisol Casado, ITU President & IOC Member.

USA Triathlon Names Kris Swarthout 2012 Team USA Coach
USA Triathlon announced March 5 that Kris Swarthout of Minneapolis, Minn., has been selected as the Team USA coach for age group athletes competing at the 2012 ITU World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand. Swarthout will lead approximately 500 of the nation’s top age-groupers as they represent the United States in sprint-distance and Olympic-distance triathlon and aquathlon world championship races Oct. 17-22. He was chosen for the position by a USA Triathlon selection panel following a comprehensive application process.
