COACHES OF THE YEAR
USA Triathlon recognized two of the brightest stars in its coaching ranks, as Cindi Bannink was named 2011 National Coach of the Year, and Jenny Weber was honored as the 2011 Developmental Coach of the Year.
Bannink (Madison, Wis.) is the coach of 2012 U.S. Olympic qualifier Gwen Jorgensen, who qualified for a spot in the London Games with a runner-up finish at the 2011 ITU London World Championship Series event.
A mentor of endurance athletes for nearly a decade, Weber (Des Moines, Iowa) is the founder of the Z3 High Performance Triathlon Team for youth and juniors — a team focused on draft-legal racing at the highest level.

JP THEBERGE
(Carlsbad, Calif.)
2011 Highlights: Finished second in the TRI-5 category at ITU Paratriathlon World Championships, and won TRI-5 gold at the 2011 ITU World Championship Series London event.
“It is an amazing honor to be recognized by USAT. I was recently reminded how some years ago I wondered if I would ever be active again after becoming disabled. Through paratriathlon, I built myself back up and grew stronger than I had been before my accident. I think this honor is a symbol of how no matter how dire your situation is, you can still rise above and achieve great things if you don’t take no for an answer and you push yourself beyond what you think is possible. I dedicate this to those who have recently fallen and who will rise again to exceed expectations.”
Honorable Mention: Andre Kajlich (TRI-1, Seattle, Wash.), Joel Rosinbum (TRI-4, Portland, Ore.)
WOMEN’S PARATRIATHLETE OF THE YEAR
MELISSA STOCKWELL
(Chicago, Ill.)
2011 Highlights: Successfully defended her world title in the TRI-2 division at ITU Paratriathlon World Championships, and also captured TRI-2 gold at the USA Paratriathlon National Championship at the Nautica New York City Triathlon.
“There are many female paratriathletes that had incredible seasons in 2011 and I feel honored and humbled to receive this award. Thanks to all that continue to believe in me and who have helped me get this far and a special thanks to the Challenged Athletes Foundation, dare2tri and my coach Stacee Seay. I’m looking forward to another great season — go USA!”
Honorable Mention: Sarah Reinertsen (TRI-2, Mission Viejo, Calif.), Patricia Walsh (TRI-6, Seattle, Wash.)
