AFS Supports Sunshine Act of 2012

T e American Foundry Society (AFS) joined a number of other manufacturing organizations in signing a letter to the U.S. Judiciary Committee on March 19 in support of the Sunshine for Regulatory Decrees and Settlements Act of 2012. According to the letter, the act proposes to open the

regulatory process to prevent rulemaking that aff ects mul- tiple industries from occurring behind closed doors. Cur- rently, the regulatory rulemaking process is enacted when a company sues a federal agency. When parties then settle the suit, they often create a new regulation without the input or knowledge of other companies that stand to be aff ected. T e letter states this process should be stopped and the settlements should be open to allow public input. It also says agencies should be free to enter settlement agreements and consent decrees freely.
