“This’ll be the best FIFA we’ve made”

EA pledges to bring back the ‘out of seat’ moments lacking from last year’s effort  New gameplay features outed by Christopher Dring

‘REVOLUTIONARY’ new gameplay features will make this year’s FIFAthe best in the series to-date, says EA.

The game’s studio has implemented what it describes as ‘the deepest feature set in the history of the franchise’. These include an overhaul to the in-game dribbling, free kick and first- touch mechanics. And FIFA 13line producer Nick Channon told MCV that this will help the game recapture the excitement lacking from FIFA 12. “These are very much game-changing features that

wil usher in a gameplay revolution for the franchise,” Channon told MCV. “Whilst FIFA 12 is lauded as the absolute best in the series, at times it lacked the excitement and out of chair moments that FIFA 09and 10had. “We’re putting those moments back in with gameplay features that create a true battle for possession and give you freedom in attack.

“With these features and others that we haven’t announced, this will be the best FIFAgame we have ever developed.” Channon also

dismissed concerns that the advancements to the FIFA gameplay are making the football franchise inaccessible to novice players. “We believe that most people who play FIFA,whether a hardcore gamer or a first-time

player, wants to play a game as realistic and authentic as the games they watch every weekend,” he said. “We all want our football heroes to look, move and respond like they do in real life so our goal each year is to

WHAT’S NEW WITH FIFA 13? EA’s Canada studio has implemented an array of new game features for FIFA 13 including:

First Touch Control

This is designed to transform how players control the ball, by removing near-perfect touch for every player on the pitch to create a level of uncertainty around ball control.

make the most realistic football game ever.” Like with previous iterations of FIFA, FIFA 13 will feature heavy digital and service-based elements, including big changes to EA’s Football Club. “We want to be the most connecting brand in the video games industry,” said EA Sports President Andrew Wilson.

The new attacking AI enables players to analyse space, work smarter to break down defences and think ahead. Computer- controlled attackers can bend their runs to get into space.

Tactical Free Kicks

Players can now utilise dummy runs for attack. The defending team can creep the wall forward, or rush a single player out of the wall to block the shot.

Complete Dribbling

This new mechanic is inspired by Lionel Messi and it enables players to use precise dribbling touches, combined with 360 degree movement, so it is easier to be more creative in one- versus-one situations.

Plus, there’s better referee intelligence, an improved career mode, humanising CPU, new lateral mobility in defensive containment, shot animations and celebrations, pass types and other behaviours including goal line clearances and shielding the ball out of play.
