New 4-Axis Microgage Laser-Based Solution For Alignment of Moving Machinery
Revolutionary MBRAT Comes to Maintainers
Pinpoint Laser Systems has introduced a new, laser-based four-axis microgage system providing useful and accurate measuring information for evaluating and correcting machinery alignment problems. “The new Laser Microgage 4D includes a receiver that will operate over distances of 100 feet and deliver measuring precision of 0.0005 inch and 0.002 degrees,” according to Mory Creighton, Pinpoint Laser Systems president. He says it is ideal for aligning lathes, turning centers, spindles, as well as moving linear slides, rams and pistons, injection molding machinery, and moving mechanical sub-assemblies. “The Laser Microgage 4D System and Receiver puts precise measuring and alignment capability directly into the hands of plant engineers and manufacturing personnel for monitoring and optimizing their own production machinery and equipment. Major benefits of the Laser Microgage 4D System are elimination of dependence on outside service bureaus, reducing both downtime and unexpected costs,” Creighton added. Laser 4D Microgage operation is simple. A narrow, focused, red laser beam provides a measuring reference line and the receiver measures where this line lands on an internal detector, determining the position and angular alignment of a machine or sub-assembly relative to this laser reference beam. The Maintenance Blended Reconfigurable Aviation Trainer (MBRAT) uses a blend of computer- based training (CBT) and replicated physical controls. The manufacturer, Kratos Defense & Security Solutions says the combination provides the best of both worlds: an immersive physical, visual and tactile environment that is more realistic than other computer- based training (CBT), yet can be delivered much less expensively and with less manufacturing time than that of traditional simulation devices. Students sit within a physical platform emulator, which realistically reflects a rotorcraft’s instrument panel, consoles and overheads. Trainers can shift from course to course. For example, it can switch from electrical to avionics training curriculums – simply by a change of software. To change from one platform to another, say a Black Hawk to a Chinook, requires only minor hardware changes to accurately reflect the cockpit differences. Kratos has now completed the initial Black Hawk Avionics MBRAT variant, which trains in most maintenance operational checks (MOCs), cockpit fault identification and selective fault isolation. The combination of classroom, interactive multimedia instruction via CBT, the immersion of MBRAT and the full fidelity of the Black Hawk Avionics Trainer (BHAT-M) provides the ideal blend of learning. Foamy Lubricant Increases Life of Taps, Drills and Cutters
Hougen Manufacturing announces their new RotaFoam Cutting Fluid. In most
metalworking applications proper tool lubrication is imperative.
RotaFoam Cutting Fluid is a heavy- duty foamy aerosol lubricant that provides superior protection to the cutting tool even in hard, high torque machining applications.
RotaFoam Cutting Fluid has “super sticky” properties to adhere to the tool and reduce friction throughout the cut.
Formulated with XHD blue colored
foam, which allows the operator to consistently gauge where the lubricant is sprayed and visually assures thorough coverage. Designed for use on all metals including: carbon steel, stainless steel, inconel, hastalloy, titanium, aluminum and other alloys and exotics. RotaFoam is a versatile cutting fluid that provides maximum lubrication and increased tool life in many different applications and tools. Example of applications include annular cutters, taps, drills, saws, reamers, endmills and more. RotaFoam also improves hole and surface finishes according to Hougen. RotaFoam is available in single net weight 17 oz. (482g) aerosol cans (Part No. 11747) or in a case of twelve cans (Part No. 11747-12). The product is made in the USA and contains no chlorinated solvents or harmful CFC’s. For more information contact Hougen Manufacturing, 800-426-7818,
