Evergreen Maintenance Center (EMC), Appoints Hal Heule as CEO
In this role Heule will oversee all operations of EMC. Heule brings more than 40 years of aircraft maintenance experience to EMC, having provided strategic direction and planning in the areas of technical services, engineering, quality control together with quality assurance, base main tenance, line maintenance, maintenance programs, and reliability, most recently as senior vice president of Technical Operations at US Airways. He was instrumental in the America West and US Airways merger, including the executive leadership for integration of the separate airlines’ operating divisions’ organization, together with the systems, policies and procedures necessary to obtain a single operating certificate. “EMC brings a strong offering to its customers in terms of maintenance capabilities, as well as its unique location and infrastructure for aircraft storage and FAR Part 145 parts removal services,” says Heule. Prior to his seven years at America West & US Airways, Heule was executive vice president at Strand Associates, Inc. (SAI), an aviation consulting firm, where he served as the project lead for a number of major aviation companies. While at SAI, Heule specialized in maintenance and flight operations, focusing on organizational improvements, business process refinement, regulatory compliance and improvements to information systems. Heule also held various management, maintenance and engineering positions during his 12 years with Continental Airlines, 11 years with Texas International Airlines and six years with Pan American World Airways. Heule holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Houston and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.

largest wooden plane and was decades ahead of its time in the 1940s. The facility also houses an additional 190 historical civilian and military aircraft. The present workforce at EMC is made up of 80 percent technical and 20 percent management and administrative personnel. In a peak times, the company has had up to 700 employees and contractors on site. Even in today’s soft economy, Evergreen hired close to100 employees/contractors, and says “we are still looking for additional staff with a specialized need in (aviation) structural skills. Some of this help comes from a partnership with local colleges: Pima Community College, University of Arizona, Arizona State University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Headed For The Future Last year Evergreen was acquired by Relativity Capital and the merger closed on May 27, 2011. As a result, Evergreen will add the Airbus line to their certificate (in addition to Boeing). This will open the door for additional business and growth since Airbus presently has over 7,500 outstanding orders for the A320 series while delivering over 4,700 aircraft to date. Continued expansion of the workforce and facility is already underway. In fact, the Evergreen is predicting 11 percent growth in 2012. Evergreen thinks it has positioned itself as the total aviation solution for new classics and next generation aircraft by continuously supporting advanced technology programs. In the near future, there are plans for receiving 120 more aircraft for storage through airlines and leasing companies. Evergreen Maintenance Center says they are ready to “fly” into the second decade of the 21st Century. AM
