Beauty - Massage Techniques . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . More to it

The majority of you will probably already have a massage treatment on your treatment menu, whether it be a more traditional type of massage, or one you have experienced somewhere else and brought into your salon or Spa. However, how many therapists will be confining their well-honed skills to purely massage treatments? New and old massage techniques can greatly enhance some of the other treatments you already have on offer, leaving clients satisfied and your revenue climbing.

Massage should not be restricted to body treatments and facials; clients love massage therapies and feel they are getting better value for money and an added experience when they are included in other treatments too. By taking the time and effort to incorporate massage techniques into a wide range of services, you will create an improved experience for your clients, which will also improve client loyalty and retention.

Take a facial for example - it's mainly all about the treatment of the skin, but these days clients expect more from their facial and for their money. If it involves a mask treatment, they don't expect to be left alone whilst it works its magic, they expect you to be concentrating on them still and your undivided attention; after all, this is their relaxation and pampering time. This provides you with the perfect opportunity to indulge your client by incorporating some form of massage, whether it be the neck and shoulders, the hands and arms or the feet and legs.

However, massage treatments incorporated into existing treatments don't have to be confined to body massage whilst a treatment mask is on the face, you can also incorporate some of the latest facial massage and movement techniques into other parts of the facial treatment to work alongside the products and achieve the desired results.

Virginie Claire Products offers a two- day training course in Phyt’s Revitalising Massage when you take on the Phyt’s Organic Skincare range. The massage techniques work on the lymphatic and circulatory drainage, while manually stimulating the connective tissue at a deeper level, concentrating on the contours and muscles of the face. Using the fingertips alone, the connective tissue on the contours is moved over bone to stimulate regeneration. The techniques and treatment can be carried out on any skin type, even the most sensitive of skins.

French Cosmetic Distributors also offer a treatment range and modelling system, which work together as a treatment to achieve intense age recovery. The treatment helps to protect stem cell habitat and it regenerates and stimulates the epidermis, whilst smoothing deep and fine lines and slowing down cutaneous slackening and firming up facial contours.

The specific anti-ageing modelling is composed of movements proven for their efficiency in fighting against ageing. These motions help to reactivate the micro-circulation, allowing better drainage and elimination of toxins. By

creating hyperaemia they will assist in oxygenating and toning the tissue, whilst improving skin firmness and bringing back radiance to the complexion. The 're-shaping gymnastics', based on voluntary muscle tension, completes the anti- ageing and anti-wrinkle modelling manipulation by stimulating the synthesis of elastic fibres.

The treatment lasts for an hour and a half and is recommended once a week for six weeks. It leaves the skin feeling toned and plumped and it regains radiance. The face, neck and décolleté recover their youth and the skin is toned and visibly firmer.

Be adventurous

When it comes to incorporating the latest techniques into treatments, it's not just those clients booking in for a facial that would benefit; think about other treatments too that, as a client, you might not necessarily expect a massage with, but would definitely appreciate! Obvious treatments include pedicures, manicures and facials, but they can also be incorporated into body treatments and less relaxing treatments such as waxing or skin peels, leaving your clients suitably impressed and keen to pass on how great their waxing experience was!

If bringing more massage influenced treatments into your salon or Spa is something you're keen to do, it's worth taking some time to research the latest massage techniques out there and getting yourself and your staff booked onto some training courses - after all, therapists are always keen to keep up- to-date with the latest products, so why not techniques too?

New techniques in massage shouldn’t be updated purely for existing treatments though, you should keep your techniques updated so that you can add all kinds of massage treatments to your treatment menu. Why not try and incorporate different massages from around the world to really give your salon or Spa an extra special feel?
