Advanced Care for Gynecologic Cancers Available Close to You


One out of every 10 women with cancer has a gynecologic cancer such as uterine (endometrial), ovarian or cervical cancer. Because Froedtert Health Community Memorial Hospital is part of the Froedtert & Te Medical College of Wisconsin’s Cancer Network, local women with gynecologic cancers can receive specialized care nearby.


Medical College of Wisconsin gynecologic oncologists – physicians who specialize in women’s cancers – are available right at Community Memorial’s Cancer Care Center to provide advanced treatment.


“We see many women with these diseases, so we understand their unique treatment needs,” said Denise Uyar, MD, a Medical College of Wisconsin gynecologic oncologist. Studies show that patients with uterine, ovarian and other reproductive organ cancers have better outcomes when gynecologic oncologists treat them.

“Gynecologic oncologists are also successful at managing symptoms,” said Janet Rader, MD, a Medical College of


Wisconsin gynecologic oncologist, “because we are attuned to the unusual side effects gynecologic cancer patients experience during treatment.”

tools, which can result in less pain and a faster recovery. Community Memorial also offers advanced radiation therapy and chemotherapy such as intraperitoneal chemotherapy, a treatment for ovarian cancer that involves infusing anti-tumor drugs directly into the abdominal cavity.


Dr. Rader and Dr. Uyar collaborate with community physicians to provide fully coordinated care.


“We will oſten perform surgeries collaboratively with our patient’s gynecologist, providing a smooth transition of care,” Dr. Rader said. “Patients typically return to their gynecologist once cancer treatment is complete.”


Te Froedtert & Te Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Network is an alliance between eastern Wisconsin’s only academic medical center and community cancer centers in Menomonee Falls and West Bend. Medical College of Wisconsin cancer specialists collaborate with surgeons and other community physicians to deliver patient-centered, high-quality care.
