World Intellectual Property Review e-Digest 2012 3 A year of change
Hello, and welcome to the World IP Review e-Digest 2012. Tis year’s edition features attorneys from Sudan to Saudi Arabia, from India to Iceland, all telling us about the major events in intellectual property of last year. With more articles from more people in more jurisdictions than ever before, we’re confident that the e-Digest is a useful look back at the past 12 months, as well as a pertinent guide to what might turn up in the next year.
2011 may come to be seen as one of the most important years ever for IP. US patent reform finally arrived, and its impact will not be fully realised for years to come. But the ramifications will be great, and when coupled with strides made in Europe towards a unitary patent, it signals a shiſting of the ground on which people’s assumptions about patents rest.
But more and more, Europe and the US tell only part of the story. Developing jurisdictions continue to gain influence over the tenor of international IP concerns. In some, changes to IP legislation or judicial procedure have simplified matters, making cases more efficient and the law more robust. But in others, there is still much work to do.
We have more than 250 pages of information and analysis that can help you over the next year, wherever you’re trying to do business.
We hope you enjoy the World IP Review e-Digest 2012, and please do contact us with any comments or suggestions for future issues. And if you have something to contribute, we’d love you to get in touch.
