CHAMPLAIN Hardy Shrub


T is tough shrub that performs well across the country, surviving hot and cold temperatures with ease. Intro- duced as one of the Explorer Series of roses out of Canada, it holds its neat, compact habit and fl oriferousness in all climates, a most uncommon feat among shrub roses. Loads of true red, semi-double to double blooms are borne in clusters, produced in an ev- erblooming array from spring to fall. Autumn fi nds the blooms accompa- nied by round orange hips. Abundant, lustrous, dark green foliage has top- notch resistance to insects and disease. A great choice for both specimen and masss planting. Zone 3 hardy. Grown own root.

Black spot, pow- dery mildew, rust and downy mildew – unheard of for this rose. Abundant clusters of pure pink, double fl owers have old-fashioned, spicy fragrance similar to Rosa spinosissima, the color contrasting nicely against semi-glossy, rugosa-like, gray-green foliage. Grow this vigorous plant as a large, spread- ing shrub or train it as a climber. Bred in Canada, it has proven to be well- adapted to harsh winters, surviving without winter protection in Zone 3.
