Recently crowned Britain’s Most Beautiful City – and the place where most people want to live, York welcomes millions of visitors each year.
If you love shopping, the city’s famous streets have been recognised for their superb shops – particularly independent fashion retailers – and Shambles, York’s medieval and possibly the most visited thoroughfare, has been voted Most Picturesque Street in Britain by Google.
Lovely gardens and floral displays have once again seen York go forward as a finalist in Britain in Bloom, and when the Lonely Planet compiled A Journey Through the Best Cities in the World, York was placed 76 out of the 200 selected places to visit.
2012 promises to be a memorable time to be in this lovely city with a wealth of festivals and events including York 800 – a celebration of the City receiving its charter from King John in 1212. Another highlight will be the return of the legendary Mystery Plays during August with performances taking place in the atmospheric surroundings of Museum Gardens.
