Grede, Georg Fischer Establish Global Partnership Grede Holdings LLC, Southfield,


Mich., and Georg Fischer, Schaffhau- sen, Switzerland, have announced a material licensing arrangement and mutual manufacturing agreement. According to a joint statement,


Grede will manufacture components on behalf of Georg Fischer in the U.S., and Georg Fischer will do the same on behalf of Grede in Europe and Asia. Te companies also have signed a license and partnership agreement by which Georg Fischer will grant Grede the right to use its proprietary SiboDur iron alloy in the U.S. According to the state- ment, SiboDur allows for lighter chassis parts that can compete with aluminum in terms of weight and performance. “Whilst fostering the penetration


of our SiboDur alloy in the U.S., this agreement enables both our companies to better serve the global platform needs of our respective customers,” said Josef Edbauer, head of Georg Fischer Automotive.


Ball Brass Buys Excelsior Brass

Inc., Auburn, Ind., has acquired assets of Excelsior Brass Works, a subsidiary of Kief Industries, Blandon, Pa. According to a company executive,


Ball purchased the customer list left in the wake of the Excelsior closure earlier this year. “We had capacity, so it was easy for us [to take over the customers],” said Bob Evans, chairman of Ball’s parent company Evans Industries. “Tey make castings very similar to the ones we make in Auburn.” Ball pours brass, bronze and alumi-


num castings on jolt-squeeze, roto- lift and floor molding lines, serving customers primarily in the pumps and plumbing, industrial machinery, hous- ing, and energy markets. According to Evans, Excelsior had customers in a variety of end-use industries located across the Eastern U.S. “We look forward to serving [Ex- celsior’s] customers,” Evans said.

Georg Fischer operates three businesses: GF Piping Systems, GF Automotive and GF AgieCharmilles. Te company has 130 operations, 50 of them production facilities, in 30 countries. Its approximately 13,000


employees generated sales of $3.8 billion in 2010. Grede has annual revenues approaching $1 billion, generated by 5,000 employees in 16 ferrous casting facilities and four machining operations.
