DATA QUALITY A PREREQUISITE FOR RUSSIAN RETAILER
ir Knigi, Russia’s largest book mail order retailer, has introduced a centralised
product data management software solution from Heiler Software for all distribution channels. With the enterprise product
information management (PIM) software, Mir Knigi will be able to provide channel-specifi c product data for catalogues, online shops and local stores.
The enterprise PIM capability
gives suppliers the ability to provide their product ranges electronically, allowing Mir Knigi to store and review the data centrally, and then structure and prepare their presentation for its catalogues and stores.
“The Heiler Product Manager is the central system for the maintenance and communication of all product data and the basis for
our multichannel strategy,” said Zafer Toker, spokesman for the owners of Mir Knigi.
The decision to implement
Heiler’s PIM software from has paved the way for Mir Knigi to increase its range of assortments; in addition to books and entertainment media, the textile industry is becoming increasingly important to the retailer.
VILLEROY & BOCH EXPANDS ONLINE PAYMENTS
Munich-based Wirecard recently started processing payments for the fellow German ceramics manufacturer Villeroy & Boch in all of its eleven European online shops. When making payment, customers can choose between credit card, direct debit, invoice and advance payment. Wirecard has been providing Villeroy & Boch with risk management services back in 2005. “We have been placing our trust in Wirecard’s competence in customer risk management for several years,” said Dr Markus Warncke, Villeroy & Boch treasurer. “That is why it was easy to take the decision to place payment processing in this specialist’s hands. “The share of our revenues accounted for by foreign sales has increased by one third over the past 15 years.
Our strategic alliance with Wirecard means that we are perfectly positioned for further international growth.” Its listed company has 24 production facilities worldwide, while
the Villeroy & Boch brand spans a diversifi ed product range for bathrooms, tableware and tiles. The company is driving forward an internationalisation strategy focused on new, high-growth markets.
BUTLERS EYES GLOBAL E-COMMERCE
EXPANSION German homeware retailer, Butlers, has selected the Demandware Commerce platform as the foundation for its global e-commerce initiatives. The fi rst Butlers sites, implemented by Demandware partner
Javengo and launched in September, include Germany (www.butlers. de) and Austria (
www.butlers.at). The Cologne-based retailer of home accessories, decor, furniture and gifts has more than 150 outlets in Germany and abroad. To execute its growth strategy without the constraints imposed
by its legacy software-based platform, Butlers required a new system that could support its multi-site, global deployments and provide central, unifi ed management over a number of individual country sites. Demandware’s on-demand model will fi t this distributed requirement while eliminating the need to source and maintain a costly IT infrastructure. Jörg Arndt, managing director at Butlers, said: “With the launch of our new e-commerce sites in Germany and Austria, our goal is to improve performance and scalability so that we can make our online shops faster, more effi cient and user friendly. The Demandware implementation has been excellent so far.”

◆ International retailer Delhaize has deployed Trace One’s Packaging Portal software as part of a three-year contract in Belgium. The software will reduce administration around the packaging process, as well as gather business intelligence on the product lifecycle in order to increase time to market. Trace One was chosen due to the ease of use, as well as the size of its existing supplier base already trained in using the portal.
