UK SELF-SCAN MOBILE APP FIRST Pioneering technology enables shoppers to scan products and then check out and pay for goods via smartphone app
Valassis recently entered into a reseller agreement with Norwegian software developer Scan and Pay to launch Scan and Pay (SCAP), a new self-scanning mobile application and the fi rst in the UK retail sector. The company said system trials in Europe have already shown that SCAP reduces the problem of queues at the checkout, improving customer loyalty and boosting customer satisfaction levels instore. Once shoppers have downloaded the SCAP application to their iOS (iPhone), Android, Windows, S60 (Nokia), Java or RIM (Blackberry) device and registered with a participating store they can begin to pick items, scan product barcodes and bag items as they go. A barcode is then scanned at the payment terminal, initiating the retrieval of the totalled transaction data and the
payment is processed – be this with cash, card, or where possible, by tapping a phone with near fi eld communication (NFC) capability on the terminal.
