Feature Industrial cleaning Industrial washer ticks all the boxes
PPS Midlands, a service supplier and washer of returnable transit equipment (RTE) to the food sectors has secured two washing contracts to wash returnable plastic boxes used to transport and store high value components for two companies supplying the automotive industry
PPS Midlands is washing returnable plastic boxes used for components by two automotive supply chain companies
O
ne of these companies supplies fuel filters for the automotive and heavy duty markets, whilst the other is a key player in fas- tener distribution services and inven- tory management solutions.
In both cases, returnable plastic boxes are used to transport and store high value components such as filters
and industrial fasteners and therefore, these need to be washed after each use to avoid contamination from residual greases, oils or other foreign bodies that may remain in the boxes. Operating from Measham, just north of Birmingham, PPS Midlands offers contract washing at its state-of-the-art industrial wash facility handling a
range of different box types of varying dimensions, plus plastic pallets. With a long experience of washing to the exacting standards of the food, retail and pharmaceutical industry, provid- ing traceable data and swab test results for all boxes washed, PPS Midlands could more than adequately meet the high standards of cleanliness as required by these two customers. PPS director Iain McArthur reports: “The core business of our two sites in the Midlands and Grimsby are con- nected to the supply of returnable transit equipment such as plastic crates, boxes and pallets, which may include equipment rental, pooling ser- vices, online asset tracking and of course contract washing. When approached by these two suppliers to the automotive sector, we were able to demonstrate our capability and it quickly became clear that they were impressed by our level of knowledge of industrial scale washing gained over many years within the hygienic food industry.”
PPS is due to embark on a marketing initiative within the UK automotive sector offering wash, equipment man- agement and pooling services mainly to component suppliers.

Nilfisk-CFM offers a range of industrial vacuum cleaners; from the classic alu- minium GM80P to fixed central installations. All industry segments and applications are provided for with single phase and three phase solutions covering both mobile and static equipment. We are so confident in the machines ability to with- stand the rigours of industrial life that we are providing warranty cover for a full three years from purchase.”
The new warranty cover will extend to unique IVAC solutions such as those in place at KEW Gardens. The Oak Processionary Moth is a major defoliator of oak and poses a serious risk to human life as a result of dangerous toxins. Nilfisk-CFM sup- plied CFM 137 H Class, 110V vacuums to be taken into the trees on a cherry picker. A bagging system allows the moths to be collected in a bag for safe disposal and the bag also acts as a part filter. The system is completed with a second stage star filter (PTFE) and a HEPA filter before the motor.
Similarly individual bespoke systems designed and installed in demanding indus- trial plants will also benefit from the three-year cover. Global chemicals manufacturer Huntsman Advanced Materials has such a solu- tion at their manufacturing site in Duxford, Cambridgeshire where highly flammable resin residue, water and toluene needs to be safely collected and disposed of. Flame permits had previously been necessary but Nilfisk-CFM provided a solution with the A17 DAU (absolute filtration) Air vacuum cleaner. The Industrial machine is com-
