‘Co-op Family Christmas’ Continues to Brighten Members’ Holiday

Taking care of each other, and believing it is better to give rather than receive, are the cornerstones of NFEC’s Co-op Family Christmas. For the eighth consecutive year, area families in need will enjoy a brighter holiday season due to the generosity of Northfork Electric employees, board members, some giving individual cooperative mem- bers, and local businesses.

“The Co-op Family Christmas was born when a group of employees saw a need within our member- ship and wanted to help,” explains NFEC General Manager Scott Copeland. “Our board of trustees enthusiastically joined in, and were followed by some of the vendors and contractors who serve the co- operative, along with several individual cooperative members and local businesses.”

Generous donations to this cause have allowed us to provide significant relief to deserving families since 2004. Each year the recipients are selected by a committee of employees who are personally familiar with the circumstances faced by each family. Those selected have been identified as facing more than their share of challenges in the past year related to health, loss of family members, or loss/damage of personal property. 6931-002 They are selected be- cause they have continued to work hard to meet their

responsibilities themselves; not asking for or expect- ing assistance from anyone. Since it’s beginning, the Co-op Family Christmas has been able to brighten the holiday of numerous NFEC members and their families.

“The slow economy continues to impact our area,” says Copeland. “We have people who have lost their jobs or benefits, or have had to take furloughs or pay cuts. The holidays are not going to be bright for them this year. “We are thankful we can combine our numerous resources to help those who are less fortunate,” he says.

“This is truly an employee-motivated effort and I’m proud our employees continue to work to make a difference in the lives of those people who need a helping hand.”
