Moscow Sheremetyevo welcomes new cargo venture

share a 44 percent holding in the new venture, while Russian-owned AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) has the remaining 5 percent. While the Moscow-based all-cargo carrier may have only a small


financial stake in the new handler, it brings valuable knowledge and experience to the venture, Ryzhov stated. ABC will be the biggest customer of the Rusport freight facility,

although it will process cargo for a number of other airlines as well. Modern facilities are being built to


improve the air freight handling capacity at Sheremetyevo, for the Moscow airport’s operator has big plans for cargo development. Having processed about 221,000


tons of freight last year, there is a very ambitious target of processing up to a million tonnes by 2030. Obstacles to progress do exist, of course. Ryzhov points to the need for a


third runway, for example, a strip for which approval has been received. Perhaps more challenging aviation matters at the moment are


the improvements required in air traffic control over the Russian capital, for which bureaucratic complexities in Russia are hampering development.
