HACTL transhipment looks strong

LILIAN CHAN, executive director of Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (HACTL), admits: “We are currently down 5.8 percent on 2010, and I think it is too late to expect a miracle recovery. I do not believe the last quarter peak will be as strong as in many other years. We will certainly end below 2010, but it’s hard to predict by how much.” However, she noted: “2010 was a year

Second B747F joins Silk Way cargo fleet

AZERBAIJAN-based Silk Way Airlines has received its second B747-400 freighter, which has been introduced into operations between Europe and China via Baku in Azerbaijan. Silk Way said its objective in the near

future is to increase its capabilities to the most important markets worldwide and to “consolidate our position as a powerhouse in the transportation of goods into the Caspian, Middle East and Western China regions”. Zaur Akundhov, president of Silk Way

Airlines, said the carrier will add two B767 freighter aircraft to its fleet in 2012. This year, the carrier launched into

scheduled freighter services, with its first B747-400F operating to Frankfurt-Hahn, Luxembourg and Milan. The next milestone will be the launch of

twice-weekly scheduled freighter services from the US in the first quarter of 2012. Silk Way transits cargo through the BCT

Baku Cargo Terminal at its Azerbaijan hub, the largest and most high-tech terminal in all of the CIS countries.

SINGAPORE Airlines Cargo added twice-weekly B747-400 freighter services from its Changi airport hub to Frankfurt in Germany on 2 November. The freighter service will

complement the bellyhold capacity available on the carrier’s twice-daily B747-400 and B777-300ER passenger flights between Singapore and Frankfurt. Northbound services will operate via

Bengaluru and Sharjah, with the return leg calling only at Sharjah. “These services are in line with our

policy of matching capacity with demand,” said Tan Tiow Kor, senior vice president sales and marketing at

highly responsive to global consumer demand, and that is in turn very quickly affected by confidence. When so many of the media are talking down the global economy ... it is not surprising that consumers are being cautious about non-essential purchases,” Chan feels. On a brighter note: “Transhipments
