KEN RYAN director of cargo, Chicago Rockford International airport

This unpredictable world means that air cargo is unpredictable as well, so industry forecasting can be challenging and inaccurate. Unforeseen circumstances that happen throughout the world can impact another market across the globe in terms of cargo growth and demand. Political and economic landscapes, natural disasters and fluctuating fuel costs can all significantly impact cargo. For example, this year

Next year, Centurion Air Cargo is expanding its cargo centre at Miami International airport in a move that will create 200 jobs for the future in 2012 – a very positive move for the air freight industry. Centurion, a subsidiary of

alone we’ve seen governments that suddenly enforce new regulations that make cargo operations more costly and time consuming, logistics corridors compromised by natural disasters and continued economic instability that limits inventories, consumer spending and employment. All these factors have a significant impact on cargo. The

recent frequency of these kinds of instances has created a sense of chaos and unpredictability within the cargo industry. Despite this volatility, analysts are suggesting that air cargo traffic will grow in 2012 and continue this trend for years to come. Not surprising is the prediction that Asia’s air cargo markets will lead the industry in average annual growth. While cargo carriers are dealing with constantly changing

conditions, their customers are still demanding the same service; for freight to arrive at its destination on time and at a reasonable cost. We’ll continue to see more modern cargo fleets made up of larger and more fuel-efficient aircraft like the Boeing 747-8. Airports, such as Chicago Rockford International airport,

that are able to demonstrate cost-effectiveness and containment, flexibility and the commitment to react quickly and meet the changing carrier needs right away, will not go unnoticed by current and potential cargo customers.
