Sunday started ominously with 25
to 28 knot winds howling through the Bay. The race committee set up early and made the call for a shore postponement. Many of the sailors onshore breathed a sigh of relief, unwilling to rig with the large black clouds rolling in from Fairhaven. unpredictable, waters of Bellingham Bay, did not disappoint as sailors from Portland to Vancouver arrived to participate in the 2011 Dale Jepsen One Design Regatta, September 17-18. Saturday brought strong wind and
big waves which caused two Lasers to lose masts and an FJ to nearly sink.
Safety boat drivers got to see upside down 505s and the spectacle of an A Class Catamaran righting itself. Racing was ended early when 25 knot sustained winds kept all four safety boats fully engaged in the white caps. At the end of the day, back at the club, ear to ear grins were the norm as sailors enjoyed a steak dinner and partied into the night.

Following the weekend's work, Jamie Ashton and Terry Tavelli scratched their heads to make sense of the results and to accurately score all of the participants. The party was in full swing again, with a pizza dinner and prize give aways from West Marine, Samson Rope, and West Coast Sailing.
