What an amazing haul-out! Words rarely uttered concerning months of boatyard work. But after four long years of trying to solve a warranty mystery, much back and forth, head scratching and finger pointing, we wanted to give much deserved praise to Marine Servicenter and C&C Yachts for their overwhelming commitment to customer service with a our C&C 115, Dacha. To make a long story palatable, within months of taking delivery of Dacha, we noticed a problem with the topside gelcoat prematurely degrading. The non-skid gelcoat finish was fine, but all the deck areas that should have been shiny white were rapidly yellowing, chalking and pitting. After only three years, the deck finish was looking like a 25-year old boat. As you can imagine, the fix was not relished by anyone and the frustration mounted. Finally, in July 2010, C&C’s new owner Stephen Malbasa insisted that Dacha be made right. Jim Rard, owner of Marine Servicenter, really went to bat for us, and all the arrangements were made to have the topside white gelcoat areas painted. As you can imagine this was a huge and expensive undertaking. John and I decided to help as much as we could by de-rigging and re-rigging so that the mast could be removed to prep Dacha for her new digs inside the MSC Anacortes paint bay. All deck hardware had to be removed and re-installed after the painting was completed. Once we were there we soon discovered that Wes Freshour was now Marine Servicenter’s primary yacht painter. His credentials are spread worldwide as one of the most experienced and conscientious experts around. The problem was that Wes had broken his leg! C&C was going to send one of the factory painters to do the painting. With Jim and Geo’s help, we scrambled up a plan that involved John and I helping with the prep work so that C&C would contract with MSC and Wes to do the painting after his leg had healed. What a blessing - and truly, all parties worked together like a glove to make Dacha better than new. C&C sent the paint and paid the bill without question. MSC provided the haul-out, time, facilities, Wes, Maurillio and Jorge. John & I did the de-rigging and re-rigging and pitched in helping with prep work. The entire team at Marine Servicenter in Anacortes was wonderful to work with, knowledgeable and patient; all attributes you want in the boatyard you are entrusting your precious yacht to. These days it is rare to find a situation where the factory, local dealer and owner all work together with such respect and gracious patience to solve a problem like this. Dacha is back and ready for some serious fun sailing like she does so well. Look for us out on the water but be sure to wear sunglasses to not be blinded by her gleaming white decks!
