Five Tips for making the most of your conference experience

1. Use it or Lose it! Start to incorporate what you’ve learned immediately or you’re bound to forget it. The biggest waste of time and money is not using what you’ve learned at a professional conference.

2. Take notes and be sure to look at them AFTER the conference. Many attendees go to the conference, take copious notes, and never look at them again. You can’t incorporate what you can’t remember.

3. Bring business cards and be sure to give them out — to EVERYONE! Conferences are a great networking opportunity. So many times at a conference, attendees actually forget to bring their business cards, making connecting after the conference difficult.

4. Get your elevator speech ready. You may only have a couple minutes to make an impression on others you’re networking with so be sure to have your 30 second “elevator speech,” describing who you are and what you do, ready to go.

5. Follow-up! Be sure to follow-up quickly with those you have met, including the speakers. View their websites, follow them on Twitter, Like their pages on Facebook and explore how you may be able to work together.

Use these tips at any industry event. And we hope to see you next year at NAWPconnect 2012!
