Assert Your Boundaries & Standards to Achieve Balance Stacie Francombe,

assess where you are spending your time and energy. Take a typical week and really break down what you are doing day by day. Think about how this can be fine tuned, whether it’s scaling back in an area while adding more to another, or rearranging things entirely. Do you need to sacrifice an hour of work a week to make sure you get in a little “me” time? Do it!! Do you need to wake up an hour early every day to start work earlier so you can get home sooner to be with the kids? Do it!! Take an honest look at what you’ve been doing and why. Don’t be afraid to start over from scratch if things just haven’t been working as you would like. You’re a business owner, so you already know what it’s like to take risks – don’t be afraid of change!
Above all else… do not, and I repeat, do NOT set your boundaries and expectations of yourself based on what someone else tells you that you should do. Trust that inner voice to tell you what you can and can’t do without in your schedule, and go for it re- gardless of what others think. And hey, if it doesn’t work after you tried it… just start over until you find what works for you. It’s all about constantly improving and reinventing your best strategy for success.
So getting back to why we should lose the word “BALANCE” from our vocabulary: By setting boundaries and creating standards, you are in essence creating a sort of balance… a balance that works for your unique situation. There is no black and white balancing act that everyone has to work toward or else face failure. Remember there is always gray area where you need to decide which boundaries and standards will make you more efficient, productive, profitable, and successful!
